Bouie elected after Green drops out

Eugene Green’s decision to end his bid for the 97th House seat allowed the former chancellor of Southern University-New Orleans Joe Bouie to slide into the seat unopposed.

Green, the business development leader under former Mayor Marc Morial and U.S. Rep. William Jefferson’s former chief of staff, decided to bow out before the November 4 election.

No other candidates qualified for the race so Bouie will now assume the seat formerly held by now New Orleans councilman Jared Brossett. The District seat represents Bayou St. John, Pontchartrain Park, Mid-City and Gentilly.
